News Update Monday 25th June

The winds of change

After five long years of loyal service and dedication to our students, Sensei Hezie has decided he needs to change a few things to enable him to spend more time with his family. Starting at mid-day and getting home at 9:30pm every day is not great for a young family. He will be seeking work with more sociable hours in the maintenance and construction sector, if anyone is able to help out here I know he would be grateful. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Sensei Hezie for his significant contribution to this dojo and to our students. I know he will be missed by all. I would also like to pass on thanks to Tina, Hezie’s good lady, for enduring the role of week-day single parent for so long.

It’s not all sad news though, we will be seeing him at the dojo still. Wednesday will remain Sensei Hezie’s teaching evening for the adults and he will be joining us for instructor training each month. Due to the hours he is looking to work it is very unlikely that he will be able to teach the Dragons Juniors and Cadets.

To fill this void Sensei Andrew Medland 4th Dan will be joining us on a full time basis from the 9th Jul. Sensei Andy formally ran the Barnstaple school and is one of the few people left in the Shudokan today who trained with my teacher Soke Stratton. Naturally as 4th Dan the standard of his Aikido is very high. While our younger students will no doubt feel the loss of Sensei Hezie, I know Sensei Andy will be bringing a lot of energy and fun to the dojo. I am in no doubt that between Sensei Matt, Andy and Leigh our younger students will continue to have a fantastic time here and continue to progress and meet their goals. Look out for Sensei Andy’s spotlight in the next newsletter.
